Electric micro-mobility and Sharing: the revolution

What is electric micro-mobility?

Electric micro-mobility is a mobility model that involves the use of smaller and more versatile vehicles, such as e-bikes and scooters, to travel short and medium-range distances, without affecting city traffic.

This new solution often turns out to be the ideal way to be able to move quickly and with zero impact for short distances, in areas closed to traffic and not possible to reach by means of transport.

In addition, the term micro-mobility also indicates all those rental services that allow people to book a “micro” vehicle and pay for it using a special app installed on their smartphone.

It can be defined as a real mobility revolution, supported in recent years by the Italian State with various dedicated incentives, in order to change the habits relating to daily city travel and to choose ever more aware and more efficient ways.

The advantages of electric micro-mobility

The growth of electric micro-mobility is not only given by the ease of use and freedom of movement but also by the strong focus on environmental issues.

Here are the 5 advantages of electric micro-mobility.

#Sustainability

Electric micro-mobility is closely linked to the sustainability and environmental impact of electric vehicles. Vehicles powered by electricity compared to vehicles with combustion engines emit a 25-30% lower amount of CO2.

More and more people are choosing micromobility for work-home trips, thus making a conscious choice and above all oriented towards climate change.

#Noise pollution

It is good to know that air pollution is not the only problem related to traditional mobility. In recent years, large cities pay more and more attention to noise pollution, a problem that brings with it risks not only for people, but also for animals. Therefore, electric micro-mobility leads to an improvement in the quality of air and life in cities.

#More space

E-bikes and electric scooters thanks to their small size show themselves as excellent alternatives to four-wheeled vehicles. Using a “micro” vehicle undoubtedly allows a reduction in city traffic, avoiding long queues during rush hours as well.

#Integrated

Electric micro-mobility can be integrated with public transport. Precisely for this reason, the goal of many cities is to create an urban system of sustainable mobility that is more widespread and integrated with sharing and micro-mobility services. More and more people are integrating means of transport with these services to cover the remaining distances.

#Convenience

In addition to being comfortable, easy and sustainable, micro-mobility is also convenient. Just think of the costs associated with a four-wheeled vehicle: petrol, insurance, possible breakdowns and above all the costs of parking. The costs related to micromobility are much lower, taking into consideration that a shared electric scooter costs vary from 15 to 29 cents per minute depending on the company.

The shared micro-mobility is constantly growing

Restrictions due to health safety reasons related to public transport have led people to use electric vehicles. According to a research by Deloitte, in China there is an increase in shared micro-mobility, the highest figure is related to bike sharing with an increase of 150%.

To the analysis carried out by Deloitte, the data provided by the consulting firm McKinsey and the Kantar “Mobility Futures” Report is added. According to McKinsey, in the near future, micro-mobility will be able to cover 9% of the total miles travelled by passengers in China, the EU and the US, while Kantar predicts that by 2030, 49% of trips to the city will be made with greener transportation methods.

The world of micro-mobility, even in Italy, has been growing dramatically in recent years, as confirmed by the V Report of the National Observatory on Sharing Mobility, where it states that our country has reached 5,600,000 registrations with 158 sharing services active in 49 cities, three times more than in 2015.

Between 2019 and 2020 there was a boom in electric scooters (+ 65%) in Italy. Numbers in constant growth where, thanks to the monitoring of 6 Italian cities, the growth in daily rentals of shared scooters is confirmed.

When green meets sharing, and the needs of citizens can be met with low-cost solutions that meet environmental issues, then, surely, we are facing a great revolution.

The advantages of management platforms

The management platforms dedicated to electric micro-mobility bring multiple advantages not only to managers but also to users. Let’s see them in detail.

#Clear and always up-to-date vision

Having a clear and always updated vision is a great advantage for sharing companies. It allows you to view basic data such as active rentals, daily rentals, active vehicles, total users, charge status and vehicles to be recharged in a single dashboard.

#Situation in real time

A management platform also allows the manager and the user to have a clear view of the situation. It not only helps to identify the real-time position of the vehicle but also provides details such as the status of the charge and the availability of vehicles.

#Ordinary and extra-ordinary maintenance

With the management platform it is possible to manage advanced maintenance programs, based on the kilometres travelled or the time of use. Intervention tickets can be opened automatically as well as automatically managing the exclusion and re-entry of the vehicle into the fleet.

#Rental management

Managing the rental of vehicles through the platform allows you to view each individual journey in detail by keeping track of all vehicle movements from the beginning to the end of the rental. There is also a dedicated section for user management and payments. Each trip displayed is connected to the user and in addition to providing the route, the platform offers key data such as time, date and payment status.

#User Management

Easy customer management is the basis of an excellent sharing product. With a management platform it is possible to monitor each customer, view their tracks, feedback, manager’s notes, and it is also possible to ban or deactivate users with just one click.
